Terms for kennels and catteries
Last updated 9 October 2026
In short: a simple monthly subscription; no fee on bookings from your own customers; 8% on bookings the Furcation marketplace brings you, taken from the deposit; your money goes straight to your own Stripe account; your customer data is yours.
1. About these terms
These terms are between Furcation, Derby, United Kingdom ("Furcation", "we") and the business that creates a Furcation account to run a boarding kennel or cattery ("you"). By creating an account or using Furcation you accept them on behalf of your business.
They cover the Furcation software, your public booking page, the Furcation marketplace and payments. Section 11 is our data processing agreement.
2. Your account
- You must run a boarding business with a valid animal activity licence from your local council, and keep it valid while you take bookings through Furcation. Tell us straight away if it is suspended or withdrawn.
- The information on your page must be accurate. This includes your licence number, star rating, facilities, prices and photos.
- You are responsible for everyone you give a login to, and for keeping passwords private.
- We may check your licence before your page appears in search, and may suspend a page that is inaccurate or that receives serious, substantiated complaints.
3. Plans and subscription
- Starter: £29 a month for up to 30 kennels, runs or cattery pens.
- Pro: £59 a month for 31 or more.
- Founding kennels (the first 10 we agree in writing): free for 6 months, then £29 a month for as long as the account stays open.
- If Furcation earns £250 or more in marketplace fees from you in a calendar month, your next month's subscription is free.
Prices exclude VAT, which is added if we are VAT registered. Subscriptions are billed monthly in advance. You can cancel at any time. Your account stays active until the end of the month you have paid for, and there is no refund for part months.
We can change prices with at least 30 days' notice by email. Founding kennel prices will not go up while the account stays open.
4. Bookings and fees
- Direct bookings: bookings from your own booking button or link, your website or social media, and bookings you enter yourself (phone, walk-in, regulars). Furcation charges no booking fee on these.
- Marketplace bookings: bookings from customers who found you by searching on Furcation. Furcation charges a fee of 8% of the booking total, including VAT if you charge it. The fee includes card processing on the deposit.
- The marketplace fee is taken automatically from the customer's payment when they book: from the deposit, or from the full amount if the customer chooses to pay in full. You receive the rest. You never receive an invoice for it.
- If a marketplace booking is cancelled and the deposit is refunded in full, our fee on it is refunded too. If you keep the deposit, the fee is kept.
Card processing on payments from your own customers (for example deposits on direct bookings) is charged at Stripe's cost, with no Furcation mark-up.
5. Payments and payouts
Online payments are processed by Stripe. To take card payments you must connect a Stripe account to Furcation and accept Stripe's Connected Account Agreement. Customer payments go to your Stripe account, and Stripe pays them out to your bank.
Furcation never holds your money. We only receive our marketplace fee, which Stripe deducts automatically.
Refunds you approve, or that are due under the cancellation rules shown to the customer, are paid from your Stripe balance. Chargebacks and disputes are handled by Stripe and are your responsibility, though we will help where we can.
6. Deposits and cancellations
Furcation's standard is a 20% deposit, refunded in full if the customer cancels at least 7 days before arrival and non-refundable after that. This is the default for every account. You can change your deposit and cancellation deadline in Settings, and whatever you set is what customers see and agree to at checkout.
Marketplace bookings always take a deposit of at least 10%, so our fee can be taken from it.
If you cancel a confirmed booking, the customer must be refunded in full. Repeated cancellations by you may lead to your page being hidden from search.
7. Your booking terms and your customers
You can add your own booking terms. Customers must accept them before booking online, and the booking records when they did. Your terms must not contradict what Furcation shows customers about prices, deposits and cancellations, and must comply with consumer law.
You must honour confirmed bookings, keep your availability and prices up to date, and provide care in line with your licence.
You must not use Furcation to contact marketplace customers in order to take the same booking outside Furcation and avoid the fee. Once a marketplace customer has stayed with you, they are your customer, and future bookings they make directly with you carry no fee.
8. Availability of the service
We aim to keep Furcation available at all times, but cannot guarantee it will never be interrupted, for example during maintenance or a supplier outage. We will tell you in advance about planned maintenance where we can.
We may improve and change features. We will not remove a core feature you rely on (the diary, bookings, customer and pet records, or exports) without at least 30 days' notice.
9. Liability
You are responsible for the care of animals in your charge and for your dealings with customers. We are not liable for claims relating to a pet's stay.
We are not liable for loss of profit, revenue, business or data, or for indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability to you in any 12 months is limited to the subscription and fees you paid us in that period.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything that cannot be limited by law.
10. Ending your account
You can close your account at any time by emailing us. We can close an account with 30 days' notice, or immediately for serious breach of these terms, loss of your licence, or non-payment.
When an account closes, you can export your customers, pets and bookings first. We delete your customers' personal data 90 days after closure, except records we must keep by law (for example financial records, kept for 6 years).
11. Data processing agreement
This section meets the requirements of Article 28 of the UK GDPR.
- Roles: you are the controller of your customers' and their pets' data. Furcation is your processor when it stores and processes that data to provide the software. For people who search and book through the marketplace, Furcation is a separate controller for their Furcation account and search activity.
- Instructions: we process your customer data only to provide Furcation to you, on your documented instructions (which these terms and your use of the software are), unless the law requires otherwise.
- Confidentiality: everyone at Furcation with access to customer data is bound by confidentiality.
- Security: we use encryption in transit, hashed passwords, strict separation so no other kennel can see your data, access logs, and access limited to people who need it.
- Sub-processors: Vercel (hosting), Turso (database), Stripe (payments) and Resend (email). We will tell you before adding or replacing a sub-processor, and you may object.
- International transfers: where a sub-processor processes data outside the UK, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
- Assistance: we will help you respond to requests from individuals exercising their rights, and with security and data protection impact assessments, as far as is reasonable.
- Breaches: we will tell you without undue delay, and within 48 hours, after becoming aware of a personal data breach affecting your data.
- End of service: on closure we delete or return your data as described in section 10.
- Audit: we will provide the information you reasonably need to show compliance with this section.
12. General
We may update these terms with at least 30 days' notice by email. If you do not agree, you can close your account before the change takes effect.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
